The Remotely Controlled Vehicle (RCV) and Autonomous systems improve efficiency and reducing labor costs, are extremely agile and versatile, highly maneuverable and cost-effective.
Unmanned systems have an important role in economic development and are proving to have a significant impact on warfare. In several work areas, the aim is to integrate robots into daily life, to encourage human-robot interaction.
The Expeditionary Robotics Centre of Expertise (ERCoE), an organisation created by Defense Equipment and Support (DE&S) in collaboration with the British Army, is engaged in the development of innovative robotic equipment for the British Armed Forces. The ERCoE comes under the stewardship of the Future Capability Group (FCG) at DE&S, the procurement arm of the MoD (Ministry of Defence).
The ERCoE will bring together key defence robotics and autonomous systems projects under one focal point of knowledge and capability development, ensuring the Army and Defence can capitalise on the benefits this disruptive technology could present. Some of the robotics technology and autonomous systems such as RAS (Robotic and Autonomous Systems) are already being trialled by the Army’s new ELFB, 2 YORKS, to provide soldiers with the edge in the fast-changing digital world.
